Overview

Product

Startup app in the fitness industry that aims to provide a comprehensive fitness tracking solution for health-conscious individuals.

Objective

Design an intuitive fitness tracking app to help users monitor their workouts, nutrition, and progress.

Mission

Identify the user base for a new fitness app.

Goal

Understand types of users, their goals, preferences, and pain points.

Scope

Conduct user research, perform competitive analysis, create user personas, and develop empathy maps.

Steps

  • Primary Research – Conducted surveys with potential users to understand their experiences and pain points in fitness tracking. Key findings included the lack of customized options and limited workout varieties as challenges with using fitness apps. Confusing user interface and lack of motivation were also selected as challenges.

Based on responses, preferences and opportunities included, enhanced nutrition tracking, easier to use features, more workout options, and better integration with wearables (Fitbit, Apple Watch, etc.).
  •  Competition Research: Analyzed top competitors (MyFitnessPal, Nike Training Club, Caliber), highlighting their key features and market positions. Identified gaps and opportunities for differentiation.
  • User Persona Creation: Developed two user personas representing distinct user segments – a fitness enthusiast and a busy professional. Included demographic information, goals, motivations, and pain points.
  • Empathy Maps: Created empathy maps for each persona to delve deeper into their thoughts, feelings, and actions. This helped inform design decisions and prioritize features.

Key Results

  • Insights: Gained valuable insights into user needs and preferences, which guided the app’s design and feature set.
  • Improvements: Developed a user-centric design that addressed key pain points, leading to better-targeted solutions.

Client Testimonial

“Tish Consults provided us with a thorough understanding of our userbase, enabling us to create an app that truly meets their needs. Their research and design expertise were invaluable.”

Reflection

  • Challenges Faced: The main challenge was reaching a diverse group of potential users for surveys. We addressed this by leveraging online fitness communities and networks.
  • Learnings: Conducting comprehensive research early in the project is crucial for under standing user needs and informing design decisions.
